Poynton based Advantage Windows & Conservatories called Karyx in to help them migrate their ordering and reporting processes away from a disparate collection of Access databases and Excel Spreadsheets and into a fully fledged, high-transaction, high-speed multi-user environment.

Advantage needed an easy-to-use system that was versatile enough to support many different workflows and user types. It needed to be secure, yet accessible and demanded a granular user authentication model, as well as being able to share data with other software in use at the site. Above all, it had to have a clean and clear interface whilst still being capable of producing the sophisticated reports that Microsoft Office users had come to expect.

The intranet was constructed in 100% future-proof and standards compliant XHTML with style sheets used to manage the overall presentation and keep the load on the web server down to a minimum. The key innovation brought to this system was a reporting module that generates an "Excel-style" table of data capable of being sorted and filtered at the click of a button.

Uniting all the data in one place brought other benefits to the organisation. An order workflow was developed to ensure that orders are always visible at their current point in the process and could never "vanish" into the system. On the pilot version of this system, Karyx managed to uncover a number of orders that had never been invoiced, the total value of which effectively paid for all the work involved!
